There is a huge lie underlying today’s economy, and it’s one that keeps you spending more than you have to in order to get what you want.  The lie is simple… it’s that the more you pay, the more value you receive. Even more, the more you pay, the more you think the solution will work for you and the better you think the quality of the product to be once you have it in hand.

This is all based on unconscious programming from childhood socialization, authority figures and community / tribe expectations – it’s the result of living in a world full of people. The problem is that  it just isn’t true.

It all starts when you, as a child, may have dropped a trinket or inexpensive item and it broke – there probably was a small admonishment but not a big reaction. Compare that to the time you broke the expensive crystal vase or picture window or something expensive – there was likely a much larger reaction from the adults in charge of the situation. That’s where we begin to learn that more expensive things provoke a bigger reaction, and we start to associate the value of a thing with the price paid for it.

Break The BankThis is a limitation that many marketers exploit by raising product prices to both accommodate and perpetuate the lie (not to mention profit from it). This sets you, the consumer, up to expect to pay a lot. In fact, this is so powerful that now you probably think if there isn’t a big price tag, the product won’t be worth anything.

Marketers have used this concept for a long time - how many times have you “invested” a lot to seemingly get just a little for your dollar? The marketing messages tell you over and over and over you are getting great value… ‘this is so valuable’… ‘wow, what a deal you got’, etc. You are rewarded for spending your money on their product.

Consistently, these “hooks” are used against you – your limitations (wanting approval, believing that price is an indicator of quality, etc.) are the source of marketing power. If you don’t get it now, at this price, because other people have, and there are only so many left, etc., you’re losing out – and who wants to be a loser?

Even after you received the product, knowing you should be happy, if the product isn’t what you thought it would be, you might feel a vague sense of imbalance – that’s the sense of being ripped off. Not wanting to feel that way, you suppress your knowing that you got taken for your money, only to set yourself up to have it happen again and again because you don’t know how to escape the cycle.

Let your soul remove the limitations around the price you pay for something and the value you receive from it.

Compare some of those “large” purchases you’ve made in the past to the magical moments you got extreme value for free; like the smile from a lover… the air that you breathe…the helping hand or shoulder from a friend when you really needed it.
